God, deliver us from the sin of “functional universalism”

Thank you David Platt for highlighting this helpful distinction between “intellectual universalism” and “functional universalism.”

God save us from advocating either while giving us the grace to live according to what we believe.

      Hey John: I didn’t actually link to an article, just the video by David Platt. Were you able to view it at the blog? I’m moved by his plea for us “evangelical” Christians to actually live according to what we believe. Regardless of what Bell advocates or doesn’t (his book is ambiguous at points) those of us that hold to orthodox (read: historic) Christianity should use this recent controversy over universalism to ask, “Do we really live according to what we believe?” Hope you and the family are well. Go Twins.
