Gospel-Powered Parenting

If you’re a parent or hoping to be one some day, there’s a conference coming up next week in Bellingham that you would do well to attend. The keynote speaker is William Farley, author of Gospel-Powered Parenting: How the Gospel Shapes and Transforms Parenting (P&R, 2009).

Farley is a husband, father, and pastor at Grace Christian Fellowship in Spokane, Washington. He offers parenting wisdom rooted in the Scriptures as well as a bedrock confidence in the sufficiency of the gospel for all of our parenting needs. “Effective parents,” Farley writes, “equip their children to overcome the world–not by changing and controlling their environment (things external to their children), but by going after their hearts. We change their hearts by teaching them the gospel, modeling the gospel, and centering our homes on the gospel. The gospel, rightly understood and modeled, makes Christianity attractive. Effective parents make the gospel so attractive that the world cannot get a foothold in their children’s hearts” (24).

So, if you want to learn more about “gospel-powered parenting” plan to be at Spring Creek Bible Church on October 21-22 for this Friday evening/Saturday conference.
